Police spend way too much time in schools. A new report from the Center for Public Integrity and USA Today shows exactly how much time the cops enter schools for disciplinary actions.

Surveying data from the 2017-18 school year, the report found that “nearly 230,000 students were referred to law enforcement.”

It gets worse

Data from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico found that school policing disproportionately affects students with disabilities, Black children and, in some states, Native American and Latino children. Nationwide, Black students and students with disabilities were referred to law enforcement at nearly twice their share of the overall student population.

In 46 states, Black students get referred to the cops more than students of other backgrounds.

The worst offenders in the nation are Virginia, where 25.7% of all students get referred to law enforcement, and Pennsylvania, who called the cops on 23.6% of their kids. Read the report for more information.
