With the Black Wall Street Legacy Festival kicking off this weekend, it’s time to acknowledge the years of work that have led to national coverage of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre’s centennial.

A driving force of this moment is the Black Wall Street Times, the online newspaper founded by Citizen Ed contributor and “Talk Dat Real Sh*t” co-host Nehemiah Frank.

For years, the Tulsa- and Georgia-based BWST has told the stories of Tulsa’s thriving Greenwood community, both past and present, influencing the national coverage you see today.

If you haven’t had the chance, check out BWST’s The Victory of Greenwood series. It tells the story of the people who built Greenwood into such a vital community.

The paper has covered the tragedy from every angle, from the historical to the artistic.

BWST has hosted essays from Greenwood descendents like D’Marria Monday.

BWST has covered every step of the way as descendants have fought for justice.
